Karina Calderón is a partner of Comte & Font – Legalsa. She leads the Firm’s intellectual property practice.
Karina’s professional practice focuses on intellectual property, international commerce and corporate law, including international contracts, due diligence processes, electronic commerce, trademarks, patents and unfair competition.
She is one of Guatemala’s foremost legal specialists in international commerce and intellectual property. In recent years she has held several prestigious posts, including: national expert designated by WIPO to develop Guatemala’s National Intellectual Property Strategy, as part of the agenda of the Guatemalan Ministry of Economics; Intellectual Property Consultant to leading liquor Company Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala; legal counsel to Technical Alliance for Support of the Legislative Branch, to deliver legal opinions on law bills before Congress; counsel to the Guatemalan Ministry of Economics, for legal review of free trade agreements with USA and Mexico, and for several different international trade negotiations.
Karina is a member of the Group of 100, a numerus clausus think-tank of 100 leading Latin American jurists at the Center for Legal Innovation, Development and Research for Latin America, which is jointly sponsored by Spanish law firm Garrigues and by Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Karina is a graduate of Universidad Rafael Landívar. She holds Master’s Degrees in Industrial and Intellectual Property and in Information Technologies, from Universidad de Alicante (Spain); and in Commercial Law and Banking and Capital Market Operations, from Universidad Rafael Landívar (Guatemala). She also has a postgraduate certification in Commercial Law from Universidad de Salamanca (Spain).
